Quality Principles
At the heart of our business
Many things have changed over the last two centuries. Our excellent quality isn’t one of them.
Brewing Beer
Brewing Beer

Malt has to be crushed before barley malt and water can be combined in the brewhouse. Bitburger benefits from years of tradition and expertise in the crushing process, the brewery term for milling malt.
This process relied primarily on muscle power for hundreds of years. Traditionally, horses were used to set enormous cogwheel mechanisms in motion in an area we called arenas. Then horses were replaced by steam engines, and today the crushing process is driven by electric motors. State-of-the-art 6-cylinder malt mills crush up to 10 tonnes of malt per hour.
