Crostini with Robiola, Black Pepper, Figs, and Honey
Category: Vegetarian Appetizer | Servings: 4 | Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of rustic country-style bread
- 200 g (7 oz) fresh robiola cheese
- 2 ripe figs
- 2 teaspoons wildflower or acacia honey
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Extra virgin olive oil
Preparation:
-
Toast the bread
Place the bread slices in a hot pan or under the grill and toast until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Let them cool slightly before topping.
-
Spread the robiola
Generously spread fresh robiola cheese over each warm crostino. The creaminess of robiola acts as the perfect base for sweet and savory pairings.
-
Add fresh figs
Slice the ripe figs thinly and lay 2–3 slices over the cheese. Make sure the figs are soft and sweet for the best flavor.
-
Drizzle with honey
Drizzle each crostino with a small amount of wildflower or acacia honey. The floral sweetness balances the saltiness of the cheese and enhances the figs.
-
Season with black pepper
Add a generous twist of freshly ground black pepper. This sharp note creates contrast and ties beautifully with the creamy cheese and the herbal profile of a dry white wine or pilsner.
-
Finish with olive oil
Right before serving, finish with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to bring everything together and add shine.
Why it pairs well:: the black pepper bridges the freshness of the hops and the sweetness of the honey, while the fresh cheese and figs soften and round out the drinking experience.
